Il Celano F.C. Olimpia nacque nel 1976 con vocazione simil-oratoriale. Ma nel febbraio del 1978, una severa ed inappellabile sentenza della C.A.F., eliminò drasticamente dal panorama calcistico abruzzese la Cliternum ( gloriosa sessantennale società celanese che sparì proprio nel Febbraio del 1978) che era il vanto degli sportivi della città. L'Olimpia, suo malgrado, si dovette trasformare da club semi-amatoriale a vero traino dell'attività sportiva cittadina, raccogliendo la pesante eredità della società radiata. L'Olimpia, così, nel 1979 abbandonò il suo ruolo di ritrovo per ex calciatori appesantiti dagli anni e improbabili atleti dell’epoca alla ricerca di un sano divertimento domenicale per intraprendere un campionato di Terza Categoria. L'intero paese, umiliato e rabbioso per il torto subìto, si strinse intorno alla nuova realtà calcistica celanese con grande entusiasmo. E lo squadrone approntato per il torneo, vinse di goleada su tutti i campetti di periferia grazie al contributo di numerosi ex calciatori della Cliternum in cerca di un riscatto sportivo e morale che rese ìmpari ogni confronto. La promozione fu una cavalcata trionfale ineguagliabile, ma solo il preludio di quella rinascita che avrebbe portato gli abruzzesi nell'Olimpo del calcio dilettantistico e oltre...
